What’s The Real Reason The Catholic Church Wants To Keep Gays Oppressed?

by SCOTT ROSE on JANUARY 21, 2012

The Catholic Church is the world’s single largest anti-gay hate group. If we are to minimize its pernicious influence, we must educate societies about the Church’s financial motivations for keeping gay human beings oppressed.

The Church’s business model depends on the cheap labor of priests and nuns, without whom the bullying theocrats at the top of the Church hierarchy would not be able to continue living their lavish and decadent lifestyle.

How does the Church intimidate gay people into signing up for lifetimes of poverty, hard work and (ostensibly) celibacy? By socially stigmatizing gay human beings and driving young gay people to despair about their chances for satisfying adult domestic lives, the Church as good as tortures young gay people into signing up to be priests and nuns. The fall-off in the number of young people signing up for lifetimes slaving for the Church corresponds almost precisely to the gradually increasing social acceptance of gay human beings. The Church knows that and — at the expense of gay people’s basic human rights — is lashing out in attempts to protect its business interests and historical business plan.

The Pope recently announced that marriage equality is a threat to the future of humanity. For that, he deserves to hear long, loud Bronx cheers. That bit of preposterous anti-gay hate speech is duplicitous, just another cover for trying to turn back social progress so the Church can torment young gay people into entering the priesthood.

We must not ignore, furthermore, that the Church also is misogynist. Nuns get hidden away doing the worst of the dirty work and are never seen wearing fancy garments and drinking fine wines out of golden chalices. Additionally, the Church opposes allowing gay parent adoptions, because such adoptions lead to increased acceptance of gay human beings, which works against the Church’s business plan.

Catholic dogma on human sexuality is flat-out unscientific and wrong. For Church leaders to defame gay people by calling homosexuality an “intrinsic moral evil” — and other such defamatory, non-fact-based phrases — is as disgraceful as was the Vatican’s signing of the Reichskonkordat political treaty with Adolph Hitler. Remember; in the present-day world, we are witness to Christian-majority countries that propose establishing the death penalty for all known homosexuals.

The Church notoriously placed Galileo under house arrest because he taught that the earth revolved around the sun, instead of vice-versa. Gay Americans today must refuse to allow the Catholic Church to put us under national house arrest in a system of sexual orientation apartheid, in the name of anti-gay Church dogma and for the purpose of enriching the Church.

Archbishop Timothy Dolan — soon to be Cardinal Dolan — recently sent a threatening letter to President Obama, telling him that if he continued to undo sexual orientation apartheid, he would “precipitate a national conflict between church and state of enormous proportions.” If you are disturbed by an Archbishop threatening a U.S. president over gay rights, you can sign this petition asking President Obama to repudiate the Catholic Church’s anti-gay politicking.

Not only is the Church wrong to poison minds against gay people, it is doing so at least in part to distract from its crimes of child rape and child rape cover ups. In August, 2011, a priest in the Bronx allegedly sexually assaulted, repeatedly, a 16-year-old girl working in the rectory. After arrest, the priest told prosecutors that the girl was “wearing short skirts.” Would you not think that an organization with a monstrous child rape history would instruct its employees never to blame the victim that way?

Archbishop Dolan on his official Church blog subsequently posted – “with gratitude” – a press release from the Catholic League attacking the 16-year-old girl’s integrity and calling the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP) a “phony victims’ group.” Dolan’s blog post could serve as a text book case of how an institution can intimidate victims out of coming forward or bearing witness to child rape crimes. As with its gay-bashing, the Catholic Church bashes Church child rape victims out of financial motivations; intimidate as many victims as possible out of coming forward, in order to avoid having to compensate them.

For a video of Ratzinger getting pissy with and slapping away a reporter who was trying to ask him why a priest was being shielded from prosecution, go here.

Do not forget to sign this petition.

The greedy gay-bashing monsters of the Catholic Church are mounting a war against gay people; gay people – and those that support their rights — must fight back against this evil cult.

What?????? Are you saying that Dolan is anti-gay and has threatened the President with words that are weakly defined? Governments should include all citizens…with all of their genetic and acquired traits. And…so should the Church. All priests and nuns are not gay, are not child abusers, and are not slaves to rigidity. Besides taking care of one’s brothers and sisters, if there be one other single thing that the western church can do to benefit the entire human world…it is…”Open up the canon, and let the Church grow towards the divine”.

  3. JuneAnnette Says:

The conspicuous hypocrisy so plainly in view in what the RC Catechism affirms regarding homosexuality, and what is tolerated, allowed and sanctioned in her priesthood hardly put her in a position to moralize to others.

The Rev. Donald Cozzens, author of the 2000 book “The Changing Face of the Priesthood,” estimates 50 percent of all Catholic priests are homosexual.
Psychotherapist Richard Sipe, a former Catholic priest who has written and spoken widely on the priesthood, says 15 percent of homosexual priests are sexually active.
If all homosexual clergy were to leave the U.S. Catholic Church now, the church would lose one-third of its bishops as well, added Mr. Sipe, whose new book on priestly sexual abuse dating back to the fourth century, comes out Nov. 15.
Father Haley says homosexuality is at the root of the huge priestly sex-abuse crisis in which 81 percent of the cases involved victims who were males younger than 18, according to a USCCB investigation.

So . . given this reality, what will the R.C. Hierarchy do? Will they recuse themselves, step aside, resign, excommunicate one another, and/or dismantle the present hierarchy which is infested with homosexuals . . for the”good of the church”? Not too likely!

This glaring contradiction once again reveals the double standard and double-speak that characterizes Roman Catholicism and exposes their moral bankruptcy. Furthermore, the myth that the Roman Catholic priesthood is “uniquely configured to Christ” is completely destroyed by the reality of a priesthood that is predominantly comprised of homosexuals.
What a mockery Roman Catholicism has made of the religion of Christ and the “Sacred Scriptures” that relegates all sexual immorality a sin, regardless of what form it takes!

Roman Catholicism is not Christ’s Church!

I think that for LGBT individuals to answer the question honestly increases the risk for murder or other kinds of loss. Unless of course, one uses a fake name.

I believe that the larger issue is related to sexism and the fear and a pathological hate of women. Catholic leadership can tolerate queers in the court, but not a more dangerous enemy, women who are fully conscious and accepting of their being. Queers get split off as a bad objects; women have a uterus and can give birth, bring a new life into the world. That’s powerful magic and it terrifies women hating men.

  6. Thomas Says:

I believe that all should be accepted in a civilized society regardless of any difference. There is a problem in the Church when women and queer persons are demeaned, and pushed to the rear of any discussion that might allow them equality. I do not believe that either are always accepted in the Church or the Courts—it depends on what one thinks and how their mouth moves. Hate is hate and abuse is abuse—and clearly, it is in the ranks of hierarchy.

“Sex by a man who publicly professes celibacy and privately is sexually active is a hypocrite. “

In 2005, the church issued its “Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders”. The policy states that those men with “deeply rooted homosexual tendencies” cannot be ordained under any circumstances.

YET . . *In a 2001 survey Dean Hoge found that 55 percent of priests said that there clearly or probably was a homosexual subculture among priests.
**Father Donald Cozzens*, another respected commentator on the priesthood was somewhat marginalized by the church when in 2000 he estimated a relatively high proportion of gay men in seminaries who tend to form a disruptive subculture (up to 50 percent).

*Dean R. Hoge (2006) Experiences of Priests Ordained Five to Nine Years. Washington D.C.: National Catholic Education Association.
**Donald Cozzens (2000) The Changing Face of the Priesthood. (2002) Sacred Silence: Denial and the Crisis in the Church. (2004) Faith That Dares to Speak. Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press.

Messrs Hogue & Cozzens and other Roman Catholic colleagues who have conducted similar research into these matters have concluded from their research that a significant number of priests/bishops lead double lives and are neither chaste nor celibate and unarguably do not meet the criteria the RC “church” requires of her priesthood.
Such are in no position to give guidance to others in matters of faith and morals.

Moreover, the Sacred Scriptures requires that those who have the spiritual rule over the flock are to lead by example:

    “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.” (1 Pet. 5:2-3)

Those who engage in acts which the RC Catechism (Par. 2357: 141, 142) defines and describes as “acts of grave depravity”, “intrinsically disordered” and “unnatural” show by their EXAMPLE they are neither fit nor qualified to occupy these offices in the church.

Parents need to consider the disturbing implications of these sobering realities and how this impacts the instruction their children are receiving in the solemn matters of faith and morals from those who fail to practice what they preach and are themselves at variance with the official teaching of the R.C. “church”! At the very least they are receiving a mixed message. At the very worst their morals are being corrupted.

This is yet another disturbing dimension to the ever-widening Roman Catholic Clergy Abuse SCANDAL perpetrated by the scandalous behaviour of the “church’s hierarchy” . . . a scandal of its’ own making!

  8. Thomas Says:

The morals of mortals will never be enough to believe that right behavior will always be exercised. The world has issues…not just the Church!

  9. John Shuster Says:

Here’s the most laughed-at mandate in the RCC’s 1983 Code of Canon Law, Canon 277:

1983 CIC 277. § 1. Clerics are obliged to observe perfect and perpetual continence for the sake of the kingdom of heaven and therefore are bound to celibacy which is a special gift of God by which sacred ministers can adhere more easily to Christ with an undivided heart and are able to dedicate themselves more freely to the service of God and humanity. § 2. Clerics are to behave with due prudence towards persons whose company can endanger their obligation to observe continence or give rise to scandal among the faithful. § 3. The diocesan bishop is competent to establish more specific norms concerning this matter and to pass judgment in particular cases concerning the observance of this obligation.

Notice how the third part of this canon law guts its core mandate because it allows the bishop “to pass judgment in particular cases concerning the observance of this obligation”.

Church leadership uses this law of perfect and total sexual continence along with celibacy as a justification and basis for its authoritative position of superiority over the laity.

And on top of it all, this gay bashing comes from the world’s largest closeted gay profession.

  10. JuneAnnette Says:

It should be noted as well that Bill Donahue and others have all along maintained that homosexuals are the very cause of the present RC Clergy Abuse Scandal.
Based on this premise and given the reality that the RC priesthood is itself a “gay community”, then it would follow that the first order of business in the not so holy RC “church” should be to clean their own house?
Without a thorough cleansing of the temple, one can only conclude that the abuse of children will continue unabated!

Excerpt from the text the ad, a letter from Donohue entitled “Straight Talk and the Catholic Church,” that appeared in the NYT’s
“When the National Review Board, a group of notable Catholics, issued its study in 2004, the team’s chief, attorney Robert S. Bennett, said that “any evaluation of the causes and context of the current crisis must be cognizant of the fact that more than 80 percent of the abuse at issue was of a homosexual nature.” One of the members, Dr. Paul McHugh, former psychiatrist-in-chief at Johns Hopkins, has said that “This behavior was homosexual predation on American Catholic youth, yet it’s not being discussed.” By the way, the figures after 2004 haven’t changed—eight in ten cases involve homosexuality. Worldwide, the Vatican estimates that 60 percent of the cases are same-sex, 30 percent are heterosexual and 10 percent involve pedophilia.” Source: AMERICA / Article: Bill Donohue’s Ad in NYT / Posted at: Monday, April 11, 2011
    and . . .

the Vatican’s Second in Command, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone blames homosexuality as well . . and I quote:

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said in a news conference in Chile on Monday that “many psychologists and psychiatrists have demonstrated that there is no relation between celibacy and pedophilia.”

They do believe, however, “that there is a relation between homosexuality and pedophilia,” he said. “That is true. … That is the problem.”

  11. John M Says:

Homosexuality is not the culprit even though most of the abuse has been same sex. By imposing celibacy as a requirement for ordination, the Church has to live with the fact that for the majority of its priests, it is not a gift freely embraced but rather a burden to be managed. The lonliness that celibate life exacts on those who do not have the charism is excruciating. Lonliness can lead to the abuse of sex, power, alcohol, and money. I believe that lonliness, fueled by the requirement of celibacy, is “the” factor which explains why we see so much abuse among the Church’s priests/bishops. No one speaks openly about lonliness any more than they speak about celibacy in the seminary prior to ordination. It’s far easier to blame homosexuality than it is to come out, so to speak, and tell the world that celibacy produces lonliness in the majority of clerics and as such, does not work.

  12. Thomas Says:

Maybe they bash so that hate mail will cease and others will get off of their case? Abstinence from sex is not a good enough sacrifice for God. Can’t leadership do better than this? Lonliness doesn’t necessarily cause abuse—but, I can see it being cause for broken vows and promises that one took so lightly in the first place. When the honeymoon ends, anything might be a possibility.

“When you really think about it, isn’t it because you never suspected that a priest would be sexually active? Isn’t it because it never crossed your parents’ minds that a priest would be sexual with you or any minor, or with anyone for that matter? Wasn’t it because you were taught not even to think that a priest or a nun could be sexually active? Weren’t you taught that priests and nuns deserved the highest respect? They represented the highest good and God? You could trust them precisely because you were told they were celibate.” – Richard Sipe

The hard facts / stats reflect an entirely different picture than the “holier than thou” image widely projected by the hierarchy!

Which begs the question . . what are the children being taught in the Roman Catholic schools regarding homosexuality? That which the R.C. Catechism underpinned by the Sacred Scriptures which presents homosexual acts as “acts of grave depravity” that are “intrinsically disordered.” and “contrary to the natural law (Article 6 / 2357), and which the Sacred Scriptures / God’s Word itself describe as an “abomination” (Lev. 18:22), or that which promotes an altogether contrary and contradictory position.
If so how does that distinguish them from the “public schools”? The answer has far-reaching consequences and disturbing implications.

Parents need to give thoughtful and prayerful consideration to these matters! May God grant both wisdom and discernment to those who have real and genuine concerns for the spiritual as well as physical well-being and welfare of their children.

“A report in Corriere della Sera on Wednesday said Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano used the term “corruption” in a letter to Pope Benedict XVI to explain the difficulties he faced in his position as secretary-general of the Vatican city-state.”

Poor sap…you tell the truth and get railroaded into a promotion that is supposed to be blissful, but in reality it is a punishment!

    Thomas,

Isn’t that the rule at the Vatican.

Thomas Patrick Doyle – vilified by the so-called “princes of the church”, who called him an “agent of the devil”; now regarded as persona non grata
James Haley – Silenced for outing the gay community within the priesthood, whose whereabouts are unknown; probably consigned to a life of penance in some remote monastery for the unspeakable crime of telling the TRUTH!

Not to mention principled men like Patrick Wall, Richard Sipe & Bob Hoatson . .

    contrasted with . . .

Bernard Law – whose reputation for cover-up of predator priests is widely known – advanced and promoted to a position of prominence

“Woe to them that call evil good; and good evil;” (God’s Word / Isaiah 5:20a)

But we know who the “good guys are”!

  38. Thomas Says:

Whom ever calls anyone an agent of the devil has forgotten that the devil does not need a militia—He has Rome to lead others into the quicksands of Hell. The Vatican has retarded the growth of the Church—theology progresses, it does not restrain. Thank you for remindng me that nothing good will ever come from the propagation of evil.
