Here’s a comment from the SNAP website that I thought was on target:

Thank you to Barbara Blaine, Barbara Dorris and David Clohessy. Please keep trying while you are there during this critical time, to bring real change to the Catholic church. We desperately need a Pope who can actually effect “zero tolerance” for pedophile priests and clergy. We need people like you who can keep all of this in the “public eye”, and who are not afraid to remind the cardinals today and every day, of what is reported in the New Testament that Christ said in Matthew 18:6, Mark 9:42 and Luke 17:2. For the pedophilia we are all talking about, are very, very serious and grevious sins. (We’re not talking about petty theft, or someone forgetting to have good manners. We are talking about great bodily harm, that often results in death of the victim.) Please; Chant to them: Matthew 18:6, Mark 9:42 and Luke 17:2.

IL - Cardinal George’s priorities are backwards, SNAP says

Cardinal George suggests that few priests molest kids these days. That’s simply not true. Bishops in a tiny percentage of western nations have in recent years pledged “zero tolerance.” That promise is often broken.

But in the vast majority of countries, bishops don’t even claim to practice “zero tolerance.” It’s wrong for George to claim that this is the universal policy of the church. It’s not.

ITALY – Secret dossier should be made public, SNAP says

We believe that the Cardinals should not just be briefed on this dossier, but should get to read the entire thing. We also believe that the dossier should be made public. Transparency is always the best policy.

There will be pressures on Vatican officials to oust these allegedly financially corrupt individuals and active gay clerics. But even more obvious and egregious wrongdoers should be ousted first: every church employee – from custodian to Cardinal – who is enabling or has enabled heinous child sex crimes by ignoring or protecting child molesting clerics.

Only by releasing this report to the public can concerned Catholics and other citizens get the best information as to who knew what, when, and will have more incentive to push the next Pope to act with speed and courage in deterring future child sex crimes and other scandals.

  1. Michael Skiendzielewski Says:

Is this the same Cardinal George who was instrumental in drafting the Charter for the Protection of Children for the USCCB in Dallas in 2002?

How can the Cardinal so conveniently “forget” about the Rev. McCormack case, wherein the criminal priest and his evil destroyed the lives and spirits of many young children in the Archdiocese of Chicago? From the Simon and Garfunkel tune, “A man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest.”

A new lawsuit claims that the Chicago Archdiocese knew as long ago as 1992 that an incarcerated former priest was molesting young boys, but swept it under the rug until his arrest in 2006.

The lawsuit was filed by a Chicago teen who alleges he was sexually abused by the Rev. Daniel McCormack at St. Agatha Parish, 3147 W. Douglas Blvd., from 2004 until McCormack’s arrest in 2006.

  2. Frank Douglas Says:

    Michael,

    Memory is selective.

McCormack had a yen for black boys. He acted on that yen many times. That’s why he’s in jail.

Tucson Bishop Jerry Kicanus, who had supervisory responsibility over McCormack in the Chicago seminary, knew about Daniel’s pathology, but recommended ordination anyway.

Why? Ask Bishop Kicanus. I predict you’ll get some cover-his-ass clerical double-talk.
